Hi, I’m Misty (she/her). My hope is that learning about me here will help you decide if we can work well together. I will share my credentials and education but there is more about me and my life experience that I think will be helpful for you to know as well.

My passion for doing healing work as a therapist comes largely from my personal experience navigating the struggles of life and seeing others in my family and community do so as well. As a neurodivergent Black woman who grew up in low-income communities, I’ve had to truck through some difficult stuff in my life. I have experienced trauma, felt deeply depressed, struggled to love myself and feel worthy, experienced anxiety, and felt like an imposter so often, among other struggles.

I learned to transform my pain into motivation to develop myself into a stronger human being, but I didn’t get here by myself. I got help from others who cared deeply throughout my life, including therapists who held my hand through it at key moments. My growth amidst adverse circumstances taught me about the human capacity for healing and personal development. This helps me have hope for those I get the privilege to work alongside in therapy.

I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) in the state of Maryland. I obtained a B.A. in Africana Studies from Brown University and a Master of Social Work (MSW) in Clinical Behavioral Health from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. I am skilled in working with individuals and families of diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds and with LGBTQ+ identified individuals across the lifespan.

I am experienced in working with clients who are seeking to address depression, anxiety, elevated stress, traumatic experiences, complex grief, challenges at work or school, problems adjusting to life changes, family conflict, and relationship issues. I am also passionate about supporting adults who experience impulse/attention/executive function struggles or who have ADHD to optimize their strengths and use self-compassion and practical strategies to live out their best lives.

I bring over 20 years of experience in community and social justice work and have been practicing as a mental health therapist for over five years.  I am experienced in Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP).

I am warm and welcoming and will invest fully in my support to you in sessions, which means holding space for all the emotions (perhaps even sharing tears), celebrating and laughing together, or gently challenging you to support your growth.   I work best with adults who are willing to do the hard work to understand the root causes of their struggles and make changes in their lives to heal and practice healthy and empowered ways of living. The best part is that you never have to do it alone. Understanding, healing from, and dismantling the psychological impacts of systems of oppression underlie all of my work with individuals, families, and groups.
