Hi, I’m Margaux (she/her). As the child of immigrants and a mother through foster care and adoption, I have lived experience of othering, marginalization, struggle, and triumph.  I am a human rights activist and a creative at heart who recognizes the inherent worth of all people and the breathtaking beauty of diversity and difference.  I am drawn to therapy because of the transformative nature of connection and the power contained in sharing our stories to change our realities.

I am a graduate of Gallaudet University’s MSW program and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Washington, DC.  Along with my work as a therapist at Umoja Healing Therapy Services, I serve as the Director of Field Education and as a Senior Lecturer within Gallaudet University’s Department of Social Work.

I have experience working with runaway and homeless youth and women, teen parents, LGBTQIA+ individuals, those on the sexuality and gender spectrum, refugees, and asylum seekers. I am a hearing member of the ASL signing community and an advocate for accessibility and language access for all. I do my best work with youth and adults who are open to creative problem-solving and deep reflection of patterns that might hinder or aid in healing.

I aim to build relationships with individuals and families that lead to deeper insights and lasting shifts that support individuals and families to be their healthiest.  I use a non-judgmental, culturally humble, and liberation-focused therapeutic approach that builds on an individual’s own desire and effort to change and heal. I am trained in Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction therapies and have experience with Solution Focused and Narrative therapies. I also enjoy integrating creative arts as a tool to support reflection and healing for those I work with.

One of my favorite Audre Lorde quotes reads, “When I dare to be powerful—to use my strength in the service of my vision—then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid," Within therapy is a great place to face your fears and be reminded of your power. I look forward to the privilege of working alongside you.
